Whenever I stumble and start to lose my way... I refocus on what got me here....

Whenever I stumble and start to lose my way... I refocus on what got me here. The practice. When I leveled up in all areas of this beautiful life... It was directly correlated with putting all my focus into the process. It’s really tough to hold on to motivation because the WHY is constantly changing. The meaning of life is too ambiguous to know what the best thing to do with your time is. Or why to do it. It will vary from person to person, month to month, year to year. But we can all take pride in our practice. We can all go deep into our rituals and processes. No matter if you're skateboarding or powerlifting... it’s how you do the thing. When I start to lose my way I get back to this. This right in front of me. Can I put all my awareness and focus into this set? Can I sit down and meditate even though I want to scroll Instagram? All of the greats become greats because of their mindset and learning processes. This takes focus in a world trying to pull away your distraction. When life gets crazy... put all your energy into your next set.

It’s more important now than ever to be your own person. To be free of manipulation and persuasion. Something that every free thinker does… reads and writes. As much as I wish I was… I’m no bookworm. I developed a bad relationship with reading back in High School and College because I would find any way to skate around doing work. But you can change any relationship! I’ve been reading for the last 10 years because I’ve set up a process to do so. I read every single day because it's a habit. I’m going to share the way I got myself started for anyone that’s similar to me… I read for 10 minutes every morning. 10 minutes! Anyone can set aside 10 minutes to stroll through a book no matter how bored you are. For me, I sip my coffee or tea as I read so I associate good feelings with this experience. Nowadays I’ll read for 30-60 minutes each morning because it’s my ritual. I look forward to it. And I’ve had the pleasure of reading many dope books because I went through the process of developing a positive habit. You can do the same if you put the 10 minutes in. And to go a step further… use an additional 5 min to write about what you just read. Spend some time reflecting... How’d it make you feel? Did it inspire you? Did you learn something? Do you disagree? Or sometimes I’ll simply summarize what I read. This is when creative thinking starts flowing. Creation mode engaged! I often let whatever I’m reading inspire what I create here on Strength Side. It comes into me, becomes mixed up with all the Josh juices, and flows out of me as my own expression. Here are a few books I love that are easy reads…. As a Man Thinketh - James Allen The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho The Power of Now - Eckhart Tolle Tribes - Seth Godin ** Especially if you have or are starting your own brand I used to want to read books to say “Hey guys...I’ve read these books!" It was very ego-driven. Now I read because it interests me. A topic that intrigues me in one book usually leads to my next read. Let curiosity drive you. Let your feelings lead the way. And be your own person!
